How do I connect to my Matrix instance?​

To connect to your Matrix instance, you need a Matrix client, such as Element. You can find other clients at matrix.org.

Here are the steps to connect to Element:

  • Download the Element client for your device
  • Log in with the provided login data, make sure that the server name is set to the domain of your matrix server - otherwise you may accidentally create a new account at matrix.org and not log in to your own instance.
  • Important: Be sure to create a key backup and save the necessary passphrase securely so that you can find it again in case of doubt.

Which browser versions does the Element Web client support?​

Element Web supports the latest two versions of the following browsers

  • Chrome Desktop
  • Firefox Desktop
  • Edge Desktop
  • Safari

In general, however, we recommend using the Element desktop or mobile app.
