Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
In this section we try to answer the most frequently asked questions about the meeting solution Jitsi Meet. Is something missing from your point of view? Please let us know!
Do meeting participants need an account or an app?
No, the participants of your meeting do not need to register. After clicking on the meeting link, all they have to do is assign a name and they can join directly.
Can anyone start meetings on my Jitsi Meet instance?
As a rule: No. When you place your order, you can specify whether we should deactivate authentication for Jitsi Meet. (If you want to change this, just let us know).
If authentication is active, the moderator must enter the user name and password once when starting the meeting - if participants click on the meeting link in the meantime, they will be shown a message that the meeting has not yet started.
If you have asked to deactivate authentication or have ordered your Jitsi Meet instance to do so, meetings can be started without logging in.
Which browsers are supported by Jitsi Meet?
You can find the current list of supported web browsers here.
Is there a limit to the number of participants in Jitsi Meet?
As resources have to be provided for each meeting participant, we host Jitsi Meet on a concurrent user basis. The number of meetings is irrelevant. When a user attempts to join a meeting, a message is displayed indicating that the permitted number of users has been exceeded.
Can I stream meetings live?
This is possible with our subscriptions depending on the tariff, for example to YouTube. You can start this via the three-dot menu in the menu bar.
Can I record meetings?
You can record meetings locally on your computer. To do this, click on the three dots in the menu bar and then on “Start recording”. Please note that this recording is not automatically communicated to the other participants and you are obliged to obtain the consent of all participants. If you need a server-side recording, please contact us.
How do I ensure security in my meetings?
From time to time you hear about meetings being attended by strangers because the meeting link you have chosen is very simple. If you want to be on the safe side, attach a random character string, for example, so that the link is no longer guessable.
You can find further options for securing your meeting in the menu bar via the three dots under “Security options”. Here you can activate a waiting room (“Lobby”) or a password for your meeting. In the case of the waiting room, you must then manually approve each new participant.
Can I embed a meeting in my website?
During the meeting, you can copy the necessary HTML code via the menu bar using the three dots “Embed conference”.
Can I show a video to the participants?
Yes, it is possible to play YouTube videos. You can start the video via the three-dot menu in the menu bar.
Is it possible to dial into a meeting by phone?
We do not currently offer this “off the shelf” - if you have specific requirements here, please contact us.
Does Jitsi Meet support virtual backgrounds or blurring?
Yes, you can configure this in the webcam settings. You can also store an image to be used as a background.
