Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Your own instance?

Don't have your own Jitsi Meet instance yet? You'll find the right hosting with us.

In this section, we answer the most frequently asked questions about Jitsi Meet, the meeting solution. Is something missing? Let us know.

Do meeting participants need an account or an app?

No, the participants of your meeting do not need to register. After clicking the meeting link, all they have to do is enter a name, and they can join right away.

Can anyone start meetings on my Jitsi Meet instance?

Usually not. When you place your order, you can specify whether we should disable authentication for Jitsi Meet. (If you want to change this later, just let us know.)

If authentication is enabled, the moderator must enter their username and password once when starting the meeting. If participants click the meeting link in the meantime, they see a message that the meeting has not started yet.

If you ordered your Jitsi Meet instance without authentication or asked us to disable it, anyone can start meetings without logging in.

Which browsers are supported by Jitsi Meet?

You can find the current list of supported web browsers here.

Is there a limit to the number of participants in Jitsi Meet?

Since resources have to be provided for each meeting participant, we host Jitsi Meet based on the number of concurrent users. The number of meetings does not matter. Once the permitted number of users is reached, the next user who tries to join sees a message that the permitted number of users has been exceeded.

Can I stream meetings live?

Depending on your plan, you can stream meetings live, for example to YouTube. You start the live stream via the three-dot menu in the menu bar.

Can I record meetings?

You can record meetings locally on your computer. To do this, click the three dots in the menu bar and then "Start recording". Please note that the other participants are not automatically notified of this recording and that you are required to obtain the consent of all participants. If you need server-side recording, feel free to contact us.

How do I ensure security in my meetings?

Every now and then, strangers join a meeting because the chosen meeting link is very simple. To prevent this, append a random string of characters to the meeting link, for example, so that it is hard to guess.

You can find further options for securing your meeting in the menu bar via the three dots under "Security options". Here you can enable a waiting room ("Lobby") or a password for your meeting. With the waiting room enabled, you have to admit each new participant manually.

Can I embed a meeting in my website?

During the meeting, you can copy the required HTML code: in the menu bar, click the three dots and then "Embed meeting".

Can I show a video to the participants?

Yes, you can play YouTube videos. You start the video via the three-dot menu in the menu bar.

Is it possible to dial into a meeting by phone?

We do not currently offer this as a standard service. If you have specific requirements, feel free to contact us.

Does Jitsi Meet support virtual backgrounds or blurring?

Yes, you can configure this in the webcam settings. You can also upload an image to use as your background.
